Meet the Tournament Committee - Loyd Welch
Scott R. Chilcutt, Edmond, OK (April 17, 2010) Loyd Welch and I spoke last fall just before the National Championship @ PGA West about the direction of the Golf Channel Am Tour in Oklahoma.
It didn’t take long for me to realize Loyd shared the passion and excitement about the tour and was “on board” to help us take it to where it needed to go. His excitement and commitment to bringing the tour members great events and doing it the “right” way has contributed to the new Oklahoma Tour!
Loyd and Denise, his wife of 27 years, live at Pasture Road Ranch, in McAlester, OK, where his father, Loyd, Sr. broke ground for the family home in 1953. Denise is the Real Estate Broker and operates an office in McAlester. Together they have raised three amazing children: Kressa, 25, an OSU Graduate School student and Consular for NorthCare in Stillwater; 23 year old Jessica, an OSU student majoring in early childhood education; and Trey, 19 (Loyd Welch, III) who plans on becoming a Game Warden and will be attending EOSC in the fall.
Baseball and rodeo in his younger years, Loyd didn’t take up the game of golf until 5 years ago. Looking for places and friends to play with his new direction took him to the Golf Channel Amateur tour over 3 years ago.
In addition to following OSU sports and watching the Golf Channel, Loyd and Denise love to travel and he always looks for a good steak house.
Next time you see Loyd at an event, say hello, as he says, “we need to make sure tour members have a positive experience and we put them in a place they can succeed”, adding, “win or lose, the tournaments have to be fun”.
We couldn’t agree more!
Loyd Welch is a member of the Oklahoma Tour Tournament Committee and is a partner with Scott Chilcutt and Tom Casady in the operation of the Oklahoma Tour. Loyd can be reached @ pigolfing@aol.com
