Players From Around the Country Vie for Texas Open Prizes

Event Proves to be a “BATTLE OF PATIENCE”
Scott R. Chilcutt, Austin, TX (March 21, 2010) 158 players from around the country endured thunderstorms, high gusty winds and tough greens to make this year’s Texas Open a “Battle of PATIENCE!”.
Participants that made the trek to Austin, TX early to compete on the Crenshaw Cliffside Course at Barton Creek were greeted to a beautiful day for a practice rounds and tournament check-in on Friday.
As the Tournament Committee met to go over last minute details at 6:00 am on Saturday morning, a rushing line of thunderstorms sent them scurrying to reconfigure those details. As quickly as the thunderstorms arrived in the Texas Hill Country they vanished, but with that exit the cold and gusty northwest winds remained.
After conferring with, Justin Kuntz, the local PGA Professional, and a great work by the grounds staff, the tee times were reset with a only 90 minute delay. That delay coupled with “cart paths” only would mean some of the afternoon players would have to not only battle the wind and greens, but the end of daylight. Losing the battle, some of those players would have to complete their 1st round on Sunday morning.
Sunday brought a slight reprieve from the chill with bright sunlight but gusting winds reminded everyone of the elements. That same gusty wind, while helping dry out the course, also firmed up the already difficult greens at the Crenshaw course.
After all was said and done, with patience, perseverance and scheduling creativity the Texas Open at Barton Creek was completed Sunday evening!
