On Course... with Tom Casady - It's what you say that counts!

Tom Casady, Edmond, OK (August 11, 2010)  This is different. Short, too. This is a request for participation, and if we can get Scott to keep it up on the front page for a long time, it may be a lot of fun. If you prefer, e-mail me at TC3ofCnC@aol.com, and I will gather your responses and post your comments.

So what's this all about? Have you ever noticed the little response symbol at the end of all the articles. If you click on it, you can respond to the article and others can read your response. Thinking about this, I thought it would be fun to hear your contributions to this challenge: What is your favorite golf tip?

Just to get you started, here are two.

1) Walk to an area near the hole on the green and look around 360 degrees noticing the sheen of the putting surface. Where it's shiny, the grass is bent away from you. Where it's darker, the grass is bent towards you. This is a good way to discover the break on a green. Especially, large flat ones (like Robert Trent Jones courses).

2) The faster you swing, the more resistant to compression the ball needs to be. If you swing at 85 to 95 miles an hour, you need a different ball than if you swing at 100 to 110 miles an hour. This is purely a matter of compression (think physics). Use the correct ball for your swing speed. When you match your ball, clubs, and swing speed correctly, you will gain yardage.

Now let's hear your words of wisdom. This could be fun. And don't forget to tell us who you are. Just click on the response button below and have at it. We should all enjoy seeing your thoughts.

. . . here to save you strokes.

  2. "Listen to your feet". When you play as many golf courses as Al or Mel or Roland or, heck, even me, you're constantly going from one type of green design to another. Some courses are flat, others are hilly. One constant in reading these greens is your feet. Walk around the green and your feet will tell you if you're walking uphill or down. If you're on a side hill your feet will tell you so. Often, especially on newer courses, greens are designed to decieve the eye and some are successful. One thing they CAN'T decieve though.....are your feet and what they feel & tell you.

  3. Whether you are putting, chipping or taking a full swing, you have more control when you accelerate through the ball. If you try to decelerate, you loose control. Use the amount of back swing to gage the amount of force. Then accelerate through the ball.
